ShockWatch Flex impact indicators

are a flexible impact indicator optimized for mounting to an irregular shaped surface ensuring the indicator will stay in place. The Flex is ideal for monitoring tools or equipment that can become misaligned, lose calibration or damaged if mishandled.
ShockWatch Flex impact indicators are highly visible, mechanically-activated devices that turn bright red when an impact occurs. These solutions are ideal when you need to know if product mishandling may have resulted in misalignment, loss of product calibration or warranty-related repair issues

The single ShockWatch Flex impact indicators have one tube and will provide nearly 360 degrees of detection. The ShockWatch double Flex impact indicator has two tubes and gives a full 360 degrees of detection. ShockWatch Flex impact indicators are mainly used either embedded or attached to the exterior of handheld and calibrated products.

Lost Calibration for measurement equipment

Products such as measurement equipment, gyroscopes, weaponry or medical devices require precise calibration in order to operate properly. Impacts can result in misalignment of critical components.

ShockWatch Flex impact indicators indicate if an impact has been experienced that could potentially result in misalignment and the need for recalibration.

Warranty Abuse

Most companies offer a warranty period during which non-functioning products are repaired or replaced at no cost to the end-user. Service calls involve labour costs of making repairs and overseeing administrative processes, spare parts costs and the costs associated with unhappy customers.

In order to monitor for mishandling, ShockWatch Flex impact indicators can be integrated into or mounted on the product. These devices are excellent tools to improve customer handling and reduce warranty costs associated with mishandling.

ShockWatch Flex Impact Indicators Selection

To select the proper activation levels, determine if shock specifications exist for the product to be monitored. Most complex electro-mechanical products such as hard drives, avionics, analysis instruments, etc. have been through extensive testing to establish shock damage boundary data. If this information is available, the selection process is quite simple. Select the Flex type and sensitivity to match. Impact / Drop testing can assist in selecting the most suitable g force.

Product Name Sensitivity Activation Height
Flex 85 10G 50.8mm to 101.6mm
Flex 75 15G 76.2mm to 152.4mm

FAQs

What is a ShockWatch Flex?
A ShockWatch Flex is an Impact Detection device that will activate (turn red) when an impact level exceeds the threshold of the unit.

Where is the ShockWatch Flex mounted?
A ShockWatch Flex is attached to the product itself and indicates excessive impact directly to the product. The Flex indicates whether the protective packaging was enough to absorb the damaging shock.

What can the ShockWatch Flex do for your bottom line?
The Flex can be used to:
Promote Handling Care – Promote care and reduce damage during the manufacturing processes

Aid in Detection of Hidden Damage – for example, ShockWatch Flex are affixed to avionics instrumentation such as gyroscopes. The instrument would not be used, or would be thoroughly checked if it was delivered with the ShockWatch Flex activated. The Flex products are more than damage prevention devices. They are also used for detecting possible damage or de-calibration.

A Quality Control Tool – Many products are received and inventoried for use or distribution at a later date. Hidden damage can lead to shortages, or even to distribution and usage of damaged or faulty products. A quick check of the ShockWatch Flex can reveal the product was subjected to a potentially damaging impact and that further inspection is warranted.
